How will you spend Feb. 14 with your special Valentine?
Especially during the pandemic, it seems more appropriate than every to create a cozy, at-home date night. Decorate the house, dress as if you’re going out and create a special tablescape for the occasion. (Candle pedestals, red tablecloths with a white runner, gold chargers, cute heart dessert dishes, whatever Goodwill’s treasure chest provides).
Here are some fun ideas to help you get started:
Decade date night
Before you go thrift shopping, choose a decade and stick to it when choosing an outfit for your partner. Goodwill is the place to find outfits inspired by nearly any decade, and with a constantly updated inventory, you never know what you may find in one of our stores. To add to the fun, be sure to play music from that decade throughout the evening.
Cozy date night
Sometimes, you just want to relax and cuddle up on the couch, battling for control of the remote. Luckily, you can plan a cozy “date night in” with a little help from Goodwill Central Coast. Our stores are always stocked with comfortable loungewear, including robes, pajamas and athleisure outfits. While you’re at it, peruse our selection of DVDs for an at-home movie night.
Crafty date night
Goodwill is a treasure trove of items beyond clothing. You can also find supplies for an endless array of creative DIY projects. Together with your partner, you can give gently used furniture a makeover with new fabric or a fresh coat of paint.
Why not create his and hers projects? One thing you can almost always find at Goodwill is cups — teacups, wine glasses, coffee cups and more. And for just a couple bucks, you can have a brand new set of unique indoor planters for succulents or other small plants.
Or find a tiered dessert tray or a set of candy dishes to organize your jewelry. A new coat of paint or some embellishments can make this simple repurposing project the perfect fit for your home décor.
Project ideas are endless.
Shopping date night
Shake up Valentine’s Day with a couples date night shopping extravaganza at your local Goodwill store. Arrive together, but split up and choose a complete wardrobe ensemble for each other.
Give each other a spending limit, and have fun being thrifty for each other. Guard your purchases carefully, and then surprise each other later with a date night fashion show, followed by a home-cooked dinner date. These memories will last a lifetime.
Scavenger hunt date night
It’s easy to create an old-fashioned scavenger hunt for you and your partner. Just make a plan about the rules, time limit, and prize for the winner. That way, as soon as you get inside, you can jump right into the game. A few things to consider:
- Time limit: The longer you’re there, of course, the more likely it is you’ll both find everything on the list. So be strategic with the time so that you both feel under pressure.
- The rules: Decide if you don’t mind spying on each other, or maybe you prefer starting on opposite sides of the store. Consider texting each other a photo of each item on the list as you find them. It’s exciting to see the progress the other person is making. Of course, the first person to find an item gets the point for it. Review the photos when the timer expires, declare a winner and choose which items you want to grab, purchase and take home.
- The list: Decide beforehand what items will be a part of the game. Something heart shaped? A movie with “Love” in the title? A red necktie? The choices are endless.
- The prize: The loser could cook dinner, or do the chores for a week. Or perhaps you can come up with something a bit more romantic. The choice is yours!
