Goodwill Central Coast is sponsoring two screenings of the 1993 baseball comedy “The Sandlot” on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2020, as part of the Monterey County Fair & Event Center‘s popular Drive-In Movie Night.
There will be two showings of the film, which has become a cult classic, a matinee at 4 PM and the evening show at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $30 per car and gates open one hour before showtime.
The film revolves around Scotty, a dorky fifth-grader who’s new in town, who starts hanging out with a group of baseball-playing neighborhood kids — even though he can barely chuck a ball. The film follows their adventures throughout the summer of 1962, including a showdown with the fearsome “Beast” that lives over the left-field fence.
The Drive-In Movie Night is held every Friday and Saturday night through October, at the Monterey County Fair & Event Center (2004 Fairground Road), and includes walk-up concession and bar stands.
Tickets are on sale here. Attendance is limited to 75 cars per performance.
For patrons’ convenience, a walk-up concession stand is located at the back of the arena for moviegoers only. Arena bar concessions are also available for evening shows only. Don’t forget your mask!
Walk-up concession snacks include lemonade, pickles, cotton candy, popcorn, corn dogs, nachos, funnel cakes, apples and candy. The walk-up arena bar features El Jefe Tequila margarita pitchers, red and white wine, Blue Marble canned cocktails, and Sierra Nevada beer in cans.
