That’s the idea behind Galentine’s Day, a modern, made-up holiday that falls the day before Valentine’s Day. Invented on the TV program “Parks and Recreation” by the character Leslie Knope, Feb. 13 became known as a special day dedicated to celebrating friendship — usually among women gal pals.
In 2010, the second season of the show was called “Galentine’s Day,” in which Leslie gathers a group of her closest gal pals for a brunch full of waffles and love. “Every February 13, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style,” she says in the episode. “Ladies celebrating ladies.”
According to The Atlantic, Galentine’s Day is such a widely recognized fake holiday that it’s being marketed and promoted by greeting card companies. What could be more real than that?
